Proposed Legislation
Legislation which would amend the Social Security Act to eliminate the 5-month waiting period for Social Security disability and the 24-month waiting period for Medicare benefits in the cases of individuals with disabling burn injuries was introduced to the House of Representatives by Representative Richie Neal, (D-Mass), and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means and in the Senate by Senator John Kerry (D-Mass). The ABA fully supports this bill, the Social Security and Medicare Improved Burn Injury Treatment Act of 2009.
