Dear Burn Nurse Colleague,

Since 2014, there has been considerable interest and effort towards the development of an American Burn Association Certified Burn Nurse specialty certification. Briefly, efforts to date have included the development of competencies that reflect the practice of burn nursing. These competencies and the process for their development can be accessed via the American Burn Association (ABA) website under the Education Resources tab (http://ameriburn.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/bnci-competency-document-february-2017-final.pdf).

In February 2018, Dr. Steven E. Wolf (ABA President-Elect) appointed several ABA nurse members to the newly established ABA Professional Certification Committee. Now, the next phase for the development of a specialty certification begins.

You have received this email request because you are either 1) an ABA nurse member, or 2) an ABA member has forwarded this email request to you. Nurse members of the Professional Certification Committee ask you to consider completing an online survey that seeks to gage the interest of burn nurses for specialty certification. The information from this survey will be vital to the ongoing efforts to develop a certification process specific to the practice of burn nursing.

Your participation is voluntary. Answering survey questions will take less than 5 minutes. Your answers will not be linked to your name or email address; thus, your participation is anonymous. Group findings from this survey will be reported to the American Burn Association Board of Trustees and at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the ABA.

Access to this survey is open to ANY practicing burn nurse. Please forward this email to any nurse who may be interested in certification.

The online survey can be accessed at: https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/carrough/350983

Access to the survey will close on Wednesday, April 20, 2018 at 5:00pm PST.

If you have any questions regarding the purpose of this survey, any survey questions, or the use and reporting of survey findings — please direct them to Gretchen Carrougher at email, carrough@uw.edu.

Thank you for considering this request.

Sincerely,

Gretchen J. Carrougher MN, RN
