Professional History
Larry studied courses including business, psychology and hospitality. The hospitality interest drew him to complete the Hyatt Hotels training program, eventually leading to a fruitful career as Director of Catering and Convention Services at many convention hotel properties. With increased experience in convention group business, he went on to open and direct a regional office for Conferon, Inc., a leading company in meeting planning services to the association and corporate market. Larry also served during the Vietnam conflict.
ABA Career Path
The American Burn Association became an association client of Larry’s while he was working for Conferon. The role included meeting planning and onsite services for the ABA Annual Meeting. Over time, while servicing the ABA, Larry was offered a position with the ABA central office, and this then became a place he called “home.” The ABA provided an environment of challenge, team work, daily program business management, with both internal and external projects, and service to the ABA membership and partnership community of burn care professionals.
The ABA membership and leadership was his true incentive and motivation while serving as ABA Senior Director for 15 years. This career path led to the development of many professional and personal friendships, new and challenging work experiences, but most of all, the ability to support the efforts of the burn care professional community who make such a difference in the lives of others.
In Larry’s words, “I am honored to be the recipient of the 2018 President’s Leadership Award. I am humbled by and appreciative of this prestigious recognition. It has been my privilege to work with the true heroes of the association. My family, friends and colleagues joined me to witness the receipt of this award. I thank the ABA Board of Trustees, the ABA membership and the fine staff of the ABA central office for the opportunity of a very fulfilling career.”
Congratulations, Larry!
