On June 18, 2024, the Senate passed S.870, the Fire Grants and Safety Act. This bill reauthorizes funding for the U.S. Fire Administration, the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants Program, and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant Program. The ABA applauds the Senate for advancing this legislation to ensure that the U.S. Fire Administration and these grant programs are fully funded. The Fire Grants and Safety Act will help prevent fires and ensure our first responders have the tools they need to keep our communities safe. The ABA would also like to thank the bipartisan members of Congress who have championed this bill.

The bill now moves to President Biden’s desk. The ABA urges the President to quickly sign this important legislation to provide the U.S. Fire Administration and communities across the country with the resources they need to protect both first responders and the citizens they serve.
